About Doc

African-American author and motivational speaker Edward Amey known publicly as Doc Amey was born on February 9, 1980 in Galveston, TX. Doc published his first book at the age of 36 where he wrote his autobiography, "Kept". Doc is a father of four children.
At an early age his life began on the streets of Texas City, TX with a life of crime. His life was a slippery slope that eventually saw him go to prison three times before the age of 29.

A children’s pastor leaves an impression. By the age of twenty-eight, Doc found himself at a major turning point in life. As he pleaded with God to change his circumstance in prison he vowed to change his life.

Saturday morning prayer group led him to discover a friendship later becoming one of the most important mentors in his life. Terry Melancon’s friendship helped cultivate Christian living through his life and helped Doc find his identity in Christ.

His personal story makes him a living example of hope and redemption. Teaching and sharing his life’s journey, pitfalls and mistakes made with the hope that he can empower today’s youth to embrace change and do more for themselves. He is currently a motivational speaker for civic groups, at-risk students, Rotary clubs, youth groups, high schools and most recently Man-Up Youth Conference at College of the Mainland.

Three years after being released from prison, Doc graduated welding school from College of the Mainland. Later, he graduated Bible College as Salutatorians with perfect attendance.

Today Doc is the President of Clothes And A Dream where he and his team are currently looking to establish a center for afterschool/ entrepreneurship programs for the underprivileged and at risk kids.

Eight years later he continues to visit prisons and detention centers to share his life and his message of how God kept him and is still keeping him and he can do the same for them.
Doc has had the privilege of speaking to over 5,000 youth through school assemblies , School Athletic Teams, Behavioral Schools. Recreational basketball, one of Doc’s passions, is another way he reaches many of Galveston County’s youth and has been provided countless opportunities to speak and share with small and large groups.

Doc’s story is proof that success is about second chances, and You Can Do Anything You Put Your Mind Too.
Doc Amey has set out to help our youth realize that the choices they make today have a direct impact on their lives tomorrow
With so many negative influences through music and social media many kids are living a life without thinking about the choices they make and how one second of not choosing correctly can lead to a lifetime of consequences.

Learn Why the Choice you Make Today will Influence Your Tomorrow
The Choices you make today will have a direct influence on your life. Choices I made that weren't so good ultimately put me into some bad places. Learning to not be influenced by negative influences and people making bad choices can take your life on the right path. But when you're being influenced by negative things and make bad choices you will go down the wrong path. This talk is centered around how those influences can determine the path your life leads.

“The message Mr. Amey is delivering to the youth is much needed, inspirational and relatable to real world situations our kids are facing. I was honored to hear his story firsthand at Dickinson High School.”

Doc Amey delivered a very powerful message to our students today! I strongly encourage all of my administrator friends to contact him, if they have students who are going down the wrong path. He had the entire room’s attention and every student was fully engaged. Thank you Doc for all you are doing for the youth in our community.

It's one thing to hear someone's testimony, but to witness the change and greatness is another whole thing to observe. To watch the passion that Doc Amey has for our youth has been inspirational. This summer he took time to speak to our youth at Blocker Middle School about the importance of ambition, perseverance, and self-esteem. Students listened to Mr.Amey give true accounts of what it was like to be locked up, away from family, scared, and doing daily jobs that were tough to handle. He encouraged students to look at themselves and asked if they were living a life of ambition and perseverance? Is their self esteem building them up or are they stuck living for others. Are they expecting to be just given what they think is owed to them? Students were given a true understanding of what his personal experiences were like and how he used time and positive energy to change his thinking to lead a life of purpose.
